Former student Sophia Day (Vanderbilt '17) graciously takes us through a homework assignment for my Human Memory class. The assignment involves working with a simplified version of a Hopfield neural network using pen and paper. First Sophia calculates the synaptic weight change involved in learning two patterns, and then works through the activation dynamics involved in assessing stability of the patterns, and a simple form of pattern completion. Enjoy! (and many thanks to Sophia)
