There is growing recognition that to fulfil the empowerment of women as is outlined in the 2030 Agenda, transformative change is crucial. Gender-transformative approaches aim to move beyond individual self-improvement among women and towards transforming the power dynamics and structures that serve to reinforce gendered inequalities. Therefore, development approaches need to go beyond the “symptoms” of gender inequality to address the social norms, attitudes, behaviours, and social systems that underlie them.
The economic empowerment of women plays an integral role in this transformative change. This webinar will look at different levels of economic empowerment of women, and showcase practical experience from three different projects that will explain how transformative change can be reached.
Speakers: Kerry Selvester (MUVA), Charleine Mbuyi-Lusamba and Adriana Sierra (Women's Entrepreneurship Development Programme/ILO), and Hania Elkady (Econowin/GIZ).
