It’s that time of year – leaves changing color and leaves falling all over your yard!
Most of our neighboring towns only offer loose leaf pick-up once or twice a season. The Town of Clayton offers premier service - for four months straight we pick up EVERY SINGLE WEEK!! Can you believe it? We'll come every week to suck up those leaves!
Now, we usually start October 1st and end February 1st, but because of the wet weather the trees are not dropping their leaves as early as they did in previous years. So we're delaying the beginning of loose leaf season until October 15th this year in order to accommodate our citizens' needs.
Don't mess with bags - leave it to the leaf truck! The easiest way to remember when the leaf truck is coming: we hit your street the day following your trash collection. If we miss you on that day, don’t worry, we’re probably just a little behind and we’ll try to come by the very next day. Sometimes we have such large volumes of leaves that we can't complete routes as quickly as we'd like. We're dedicated to getting neighborhoods looking great each week! Our self-contained leaf truck which can be operated by just one staff member is powerful and works to cover the entire town in a week's time.
All we ask is that you pile the leaves up between the sidewalk and the curb. Let’s say that again, pile up the leaves between the sidewalk and the curb. Don’t put them way out in the street! And please don't cover up your fire hydrants!
If you don’t have sidewalks, place them back from the curb and onto the very edge of the grass. Leaves piled in the street can block the roadway.
And please, please be careful not to throw sticks or large debris in the leaf piles! Those sticks can get stuck in the machine and delay leaf collection for everyone.
