Singing through a straw modifies how much air can escape the body, which allows air pressure and acoustic energy to be reflected backward from the lips, decompressing and helping the vocal folds vibrate more easily, and with less muscular effort. Oren is an award sinning singing teacher, voice researcher, and inventor of the SOVT Singing Straw. Oren is currently lecturing all around cyberspace on the topic of SOVT (also known as Straw Phonation / Water Resistive Voice Therapy / SOVT Singing Technique). Oren trained in singing and vocal technique at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, as well as studying internationally in Holland in collaboration with the London College of Music, and with NYVC (New York Vocal Coaching).

His current pedagogical focus is on researching and developing SOVT Singing Technique, using state of the art computer simulations to explore the interactions of airflow and air pressures within the vocal tract.
