On June 26, the green troops of the 26th Pennsylvania Emergency Infantry marched through Gettysburg to face Jubal Early’s Confederate Division. As the battle-hardened veterans of Lee’s Army opened fire, however, many men of the 26th broke and ran. Some, even, were captured, including the hometown men of Company A.
