Attachment avoidance is when you have been avoided or neglected in your past and, as a result, now avoid getting close to anyone. This is a natural way of protecting yourself from being hurt again, but it can also keep you from experiencing the love and affection that you may desperately need.
Feelings of being loved, held, or praised may feel unfamiliar to you if you've never had them before, but that doesn't mean that you can't make them familiar. By reaching out to others and opening yourself up to relationships, you can slowly start to change how you feel about attachment and create a more secure attachment style. With time and patience, you can learn to trust others and let them in.
