Do you struggle when it comes to trusting others?
In the 1950s, Erikson’s work looked at how as children, one of the earliest conclusions we reach relates to whether others can be trusted.
And the conclusion we drew was largely based on the relationship we formed with our parents or primary caregivers.
If you didn’t feel you could trust the people who you needed for safety and security, you might not have learned what this looks like, and may still struggle when it comes to trusting others later in life - whether in romantic relationships, friendships or at work.
It can be a complicated space, as is anything involving human psychology and early childhood experiences (including trauma), but there are ways you can start to slowly exercise your trust muscle.
