Offering a helping hand to abandoned and abused children in the Philippine capital, the Anak Tnk (Tulay Ng Kabataan) foundation has rescued more than 50,000 kids from the streets, shantytowns and dumpsites of Manila. The NGO provides a safe haven to some of the city’s poorest kids, and this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
With 830,000 children living below the poverty line, many fall prey to drugs, gangs and violence, and survive by begging, stealing or selling sex. In this Perspective segment, the foundation’s Executive Director, Father Matthieu Dauchez, speaks to France 24’s Richelle Harrison Plesse about helping these kids escape a life on the streets and cross the bridge to a better future, despite increasing violence in the Philippines amid President Rodrigo Duterte’s brutal war on drugs.
