Near Chichén Itzá, the Balamku cave was originally discovered in 1966, by Víctor Segovia Pinto. For unknown reasons, he sealed the cave and all records of its discovery were lost. Now, more than 50 years later, National Geographic Explorer Guillermo de Anda and his team rediscovered the cave during their search for the water table under Chichén Itzá.
