"Unity Village" is a great composition by guitarist Pat Metheny - first released on his classic album "Bright Size Life".
It has such a gorgeous folk-song quality to it, and yet when you look at the melody up close, it's constructed of the most dissonant intervals possible - tritones, minor ninths, and other wide leaps. Yet Metheny's incredible melodic sense still shines through.
For this recording I've collaborated with one of my best friends, guitarist Davy Mooney. Davy is from New Orleans, LA and has been teaching guitar at University of North Texas for the past few years.
We've been playing music together in various forms since at least 2005, most recently in NY for some concerts in 2018 which I've recorded an linked here: [ Ссылка ]
Here is the recording process:
1) I thought this tune might sound nice on marimba, so I went to school and recorded the marimba part. I made three takes, from which the 2nd one was the best. Then I sent it to Davy.
2) Davy recorded his guitar part and sent it back to me.
3) I added electric bass and that was it.
I hope you enjoy these recordings! Please subscribe if you do.
