STORYLINE:
About 100 classic cars started their 7,600 mile (12,230 kilometre) journey from Beijing to Paris on Tuesday as part of the 2013 Classic Car Rally.
Vintage cars gathered near China's Great Wall in a suburb of the capital for the starting ceremony, attended by participants from all over the world.
All participants of the rally are supposed to finish their journey within 33 days.
This year's rally attracted around 200 participants from 26 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and the US, among many others.
70-year old Malcolm Lister and his 64-year old co-driver Tony Smyth came to Beijing with a Rover car made in 1960.
This is the first time the pair will compete in the rally, and the British duo said the challenge excites them.
"Most of this journey is in countries we have never been to, and unlikely to have the pleasure to come again to see, and we are really looking forward to the experience," co-pilot Lister added.
For Belgian Pierre Malingreau and his friend Gaby, the journey is a realisation of a dream from their youth.
Malingreau is a veteran driver of classic car rallies, but it is a first for him to bring his nearly 50-year old vehicle outside of Europe.
"We'd like to know this country, and if we can learn this country with an old car, then it's beautiful. That's the only reason that we do this rally."
The Beijing- Paris Classic Car Rally runs from Beijing, through Ulaan Baatar, Novosibirsk, Kiev, Krakow, Bratislava and Salzburg, and to finish in Paris on 29 June.
The first rally was held in 1907, and this year's is the 5th edition.
