In a common heart rhythm disorder called atrial fibrillation (AF), a clot may form inside the heart. Thus, certain blood thinners should be uset to prevent clot formation. While using these drugs, however, some patients experience a serious complication such as bleeding in the brain or stomach. If so, they cannot use these drugs, and also face the risk of having a stroke due to a clot escaping from the heart, entering the bloodstream, and then travelling to the brain. These patients are no longer hopeless; there is a novel technologic advancement that decreases the stroke risk without using lifelong blood thinners. In this video, we summarize this innovation.
