Track 1 from his debut album "Valotte" released in 1984 copyright Atlantic Records. It was recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, Bear Track Studios in Suffern, New York, A&R Recording Studios, Clinton Recording Studios and the Hit Factory, all in New York City. It featured the famed Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and was produced by Phil Ramone, originally from South Africa, and one of the greatest producers of all time. He won fourteen Grammys out of thirty-four nominations over his distinguished career and his production on this album is absolutely masterful. In addition to the main engineer, there were ten assistant engineers that contributed. The album was harshly criticized by the usual suspects for being a half-hearted attempt to imitate his father's style but without the same level of emotion and conviction in the music. Retrospective reviews have been kinder, noting Julian's ability to craft appealing melodies in a Beatles-inspired style of his own. His burden in a creative sense was that he was the son of one of those Beatles, who also happened to be one of the greatest songwriters of the twentieth century. A lot was expected of him because of his genetics and I feel his debut was under-appreciated by critics, although it did well on the charts. It consists of quality material written mostly by himself and with the help of his core bandmates on a couple of songs, including the title track. He went on to release several more albums but none that were as successful as this one. These days he's involved with many philanthropic endeavors to address humanitarian and environmental issues and has received numerous awards for his efforts. The album reached No. 20 in the U.K., No. 17 in the U.S., No. 15 in Sweden and New Zealand, No. 12 in Canada and No. 8 in Australia. It was certified Silver in the U.K. and Platinum in the U.S. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by Julian Lennon, Justin Clayton & Carlton Morales and produced by Phil Ramone. Sitting on the doorstep of the house I can't afford
I can feel (you there)
Thinking of a reason, well, it's really not very hard
To love you even though you nearly lost my (heart)
How can I explain the meaning of our love?
It fit so tight, closer than (a glove)
(Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar)
(Wonderin' if we're really ever gonna get that far)
(Do you know there's something wrong?)
('Cause I felt it all along)
I can see your face in the mirrors of my mind
Will you still (be there?)
We're really not so clever as we seem to think we are
We've always got our troubles so we solve them in the bar
As the days go by we seem to drift apart
If I could only find a way (to keep hold of your heart)
(Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar)
(Wonderin' if we're really ever gonna get that far)
(Do you know there's something wrong?)
('Cause I felt it all along)
Sitting in the valley as I watch the sun go down
(I can see you there)
Thinking of a reason, well, it's really not very hard
To love you even though (you nearly lost my heart)
When will we know when the change is gonna come?
I've got a good feeling (and it's coming from the sun)
(Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar)
(Wonderin' if we're really ever gonna get that far)
(Do you know there's something wrong?)
(We'll stick together 'cause we're strong)
