Fantasmic is back after the dreaded fire that burned Murphy the Dragon. We arrived many hours early to stake our spot to bring this POV to you and the crowd was packed and pumped. The whole theme of the show — good versus evil, and Mickey’s magic and imagination overpowering the evil. It’s Disney’s longest-running nighttime spectacular since 1992!
The show maintains the original premise — minus the dragon — and “brings back the iconic Peter Pan scene and its Lost Boys as they join Peter Pan and Wendy to battle Captain Hook on a pirate ship that sails into view on the Rivers of America. They execute some spectacular duels and falls during this swashbuckling sequence. It is a lot of fun! We heard quite a few conversations in the crowd about how this original scene was preferred to the previous Pirates of the Caribbean scene. We hoped that they would bring back the Tick Tock Croc floating by but it was just a projection that is easy to miss if you are watching the pirates swinging and dangling upside down.
The Princess barges are always a hit with their bright colors. The kids and adults around were super excited when they came floating down the river to their iconic songs.
All the characters passing by waving on the Mark Twain driven by Steam Boat Willie is still an exciting experience that brings a dopamine dump, cheers of joy, and an occasional tear of happiness.
The battle between Mickey and Maleficent with an array of lighting, projection and pyrotechnic effects. Maleficent, with scepter in hand, ascends 35 feet above. Firework effects appear to shoot from Mickey’s hands, and Maleficent will set the river ablaze which looked pretty incredible. They actually used this before when the dragon broke down earlier in time as a Plan B, so maybe those rumors might become true...
Overall a great show and we loved it. We just hoped that Disney would have replaced our beloved Murphy with an equally iconic Dragon.
