A man who was protesting outside the Chinese consulate spoke out on Wednesday after being attacked at the Chinese consulate in Manchester, U.K., over the weekend. In a media interview, Bob Chan said he was "angry" and "shocked that this had happened on foreign soil in the U.K."
Footage posted on social media showed a man, wearing a black cap and with a ponytail, being hauled through a gate into the consular grounds in Manchester on Sunday, where he appeared to be assaulted by five men as he lay on the ground.
Chan said the attack started when masked men came out of the consulate to take away banners from peaceful protesters. ''I hope that those people who were involved in the assault will be held accountable,” Chan added
Separately, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that the treatment of the protester was "unacceptable" and that the government was considering further action. China's foreign minister Wang Wenbin also said that it had lodged representations with Britain over the incident.
