First off I would just like to say that I'm a die and toolmaker with over 45 years of working on E.D.M. Machines, I've seen and know how they worked back in the 70's, 80's, 90's etc. (before PC's) and I only have what I regard as a basic understanding of electronics so any technical questions asked will be beyond me.
I built this machine a few years ago just to see if it could be done as many people talked about the commercial builders keeping their generator designs secret?
In fact back then, it seems that the secret was that there is no secret, it's all done mainly by using Ohm's Law.
The machine has 3 power settings up to 10 Amps. max with a pulse frequency range of 1 KHz to 150 KHz (1000 uS to 6.6 uS) and a duty cycle (pulse on time) of up to 99% and is also capable of eroding in the up direction (simply reverse the motor wires) which is handy when backing off a tool bed with the same electrode.
Is this the ultimate in homemade E.D.M. Builds?
Maybe, but either way I think you'll agree that it works okay.
Note:
The upcoming stepper motor version uses a unique, non standard custom controller and is even better and more stable, again no PC or code used.
