Fitness to transport is an important aspect of a dairy farm’s comprehensive herd health plan that meets FARM Animal Care Program standards. Lily Edwards-Callaway, Ph.D., addresses the importance of considering a dairy cow’s well-being before transporting and some common challenges dairy farmers face when making those decisions. She also answers questions about what fitness to transport is, why it’s important, how to know if animals are safe to be transported and how to handle those that are not.
Lily Edwards-Callaway, Ph.D., is the Assistant Professor of Livestock Behavior and Welfare at Colorado State University.
The National Dairy FARM Program Quick Convos series is an interactive opportunity for dairy farmers to learn about the FARM Program.
