Band: Aphyxion
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 (4.5/5)
From Ribe, Denmark, Aphyxion is a death metal act set to kill. There are a lot of death metal bands out there that will drown out their sound with chuggy breakdowns and half pitched squeals, which is has been overdone in my opinion. However, Aphyxion step up to the scene with a sound that's just busy. Don't take "busy" as a light term. There are a lot of elements that these dudes throw into the mix that make this worth more than just a listen, but a purchase as well. They've got rhythm, they've got melody, and they've certainty got a frontman that leads in expertise as well as finesse behind the mic.
There is a bit of mystery surrounding this band as not much information can be found about the band themselves in terms of influence, but they do sound a bit like Heaven Shall Burn mixed with some Make Them Suffer to me, which happen to be two of my favorite death metal bands.
When it comes to the instrumental part of this review, not much can be said in terms of improvement. The fast paced-ness of the featured track "Despicable" screams Death Metal as it chips away what I have left of ear drums, which is far from a bad thing. The guitarist has an apparent familiarity with experience behind the strings and knows how to keep the ear intrigued and entertained while the drummer sets the tone for the track and leads it to absolute maniacal chaos.
The songwriting capabilities of Aphyxion can't really be gauged due to the fact that this is currently the only song I have heard by them, but I definitely look forward to hearing more tracks alongside the strength of this single.
All in all, this is a very solid release.
