75 years ago, the most famous act of armed Jewish resistance during the Holocaust occurred in the Warsaw ghetto. In the spring of 1943, 750 ghetto fighters fought the Nazis for nearly a month. Simcha Rotem was one of the fighters. When the uprising was defeated, he smuggled surviving fighters out of the ghetto. At 93 years old, he is the last remaining fighter of the uprising still with us today.
More than 56,000 Jews were captured from the ghetto. 7,000 were shot. The remainder were deported to camps. Their bravery is not forgotten.
