(17 Nov 2017) This time-lapse video shows Mercedes-Benz Stadium rising from the ground to become the newest addition to the Atlanta skyline.
The AP used photos shot from a nearby high-rise showing the construction over a period of more than two years.
The new $1.6 billion stadium was built to replace to the Georgia Dome next door, which is set to be imploded on Monday, November 20
Police say several streets and parts of the transit system will close for the historic blast.
The city’s tallest hotel, the 73-story Westin Peachtree Plaza with a view of the dome, plans a “Georgia Dome implosion party” in its restaurant and bar near the very top.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the new home of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United.
The new venue features a retractable roof; a 1,100-foot-long “halo board” video display; and a giant steel Falcon sculpture outside one of the main entrances.
