Ukrainian soldiers hours prior to the #Kharkiv offensive, singing the anthem
The words of the anthem are based on a poem by Ukrainian ethnographer, folklorist and poet Pavel Chubinsky. The priest, a famous composer of his time, Mikhail Verbitsky wrote music for poetry and for the first time performed the composition himself in the hall of the theological seminary in the city of Przemysl.
On January 15, 1992, the musical edition of the National Anthem was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. However, it was not until March 6, 2003 that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law "On the National Anthem of Ukraine", proposed by President Leonid Kuchma. The bill proposed to approve the music of Mikhail Verbitsky as the National Anthem with the words of only the first verse and chorus of Pavel Chubinsky's song "Ukraine Has Not Yet Died".
You can often hear inaccuracies in the performance of the anthem. It is officially accepted to perform an excerpt from the first line "i glory, i will", but some replace it with a more sonorous "neither glory, nor will". In the second line, you can often hear "brother of Ukraine" instead of "brother of youth". And in the third, "little witches" are often performed instead of "little ones".
