"The sudden opening of our eyes to the elaborate, extravagant beauty around us.” (An apposite quote from Coleman Barks’ translation of the Persian poet Rumi).
This track has been described as my Green Anthem. The recording was produced by Bill Shanley who has worked with a range of top artists, including Paul Brady, Ray Davies of The Kinks and Eleanor McEvoy.
The recording is now available on Spotify, Apple Music and most digital music platforms.
Lyrically, my song refers to aspects of the Irish landscape as if asking every listener, “have you really looked at the wonders of nature all around us?” “Many people, including myself, have admitted that until the recent Pandemic they had never really looked at the wonders of the world we live in. Yes, we knew they were there, but had we taken it all for granted? The Pandemic changed that, and with Climate Change issues becoming even more urgent, there’s an added need for us to reflect on, celebrate and protect our environment. If my song and video can help achieve that even in a small way, I’ll be delighted.”
The lyrics for ‘Have You Ever Seen…’ underscore my vision, with references to Ireland’s natural beauty: our green grass, flowers, sky, showers, and sea. Music industry insiders have praised the song for its gentle melody, rich harmonies and for the meditative and mindful lyrical approach.
The song was recorded with my long-time musical sidekick, guitarist Bill Stuart. Video footage by Kerry-based landscape photographer Peter Cox adds sensitive visuals that graphically reflect the sentiments and calming feel of the song’s soundscape and ask the same question, “Have You Ever Seen?”
