Ustaz Ismail Hashim (1933-1996) was a renowned Malaysian qari (reciter) who had an exceptionally successful run at the International Quran Recital Competition hosted annually by Malaysia since 1961. During his long and illustrious years as Malaysia's best qari, Ustaz Ismail Hashim emerged as winner of the competition for 8 times - a record that has yet to be broken.
