Have a high rate of increase
Followed by rapid decrease


r-selected reproductive strategies (opportunistic)
-Short maturation & lifespan
-Many (small) offspring; usually 1 (early) reproduction
-No parental care
-High death rate


K-selected adaptations
Populations experience competitive logistic growth
Favor reproduction near carrying capacity

K-selected (equilibrial)
-Long maturation & lifespan
-Few (large) offspring; usually several (late) reproductions
-Extensive parental care
-Low death rate

Parental Care Strategies- Most natural populations exhibit a combination of the r/k adaptations
