The new E3AS-HL150 CMOS laser from Omron Automation is an impressive device.
In this video, Jeremy tests the accuracy of this sensor.
To do so, he 3D prints 2.5 and 3.0 mm feeler guages. Using the remote zero adjust feature on the sensor, he sets the zero point on the 2.5mm part. Then, he places the 3.0mm part under the sensor. The display reads exactly 0.5 mm, which is excellent accuracy for a discrete output sensor. The error between different materials is also very small.
