There is nothing more beautiful than a misty autumn morning. I was stunned by the magical atmosphere of Colinton. Colinton's history dates back to the 11 century. This little Edinburgh suburb has many visitors such as Scottish queens and kings, or Oliver Cromwell who destroyed Colinton castle in the 15th century. Castle serves this day as a school. Colinton plays important role in the English Civil War as well. And local parish church founded in 1095 plays its role here. You can still find the village war memorial on the church's kirkyard.

As a kid, I loved the book treasure island and dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Persona of Rober Luis Stevenson author of these books are closely tied with Colington, its parish church, and the grounds and estates around. As a child, Robert Louis Stevenson frequently visited the manse in Colinton, where his maternal grandfather, Dr. Lewis Balfour, lived while he was the Minister of the Parish Church.
His series of poems entitled, A Child’s Garden of Verses was inspired by his time spent in the Colinton village. Robert was also a well-known traveler, actually, one of the most know travelers of his time. His stories from Samoa, Australia, and many places in the pacific inspired many novels, poems, and adventure seekers to follow in his footsteps.

When you finally arrive at the Colinton tunnel, you will be wowed by a beautiful mural art project. The whole tunnel is a poem from a Railway Carriage which inspired the local community to do this beautiful art project. The mural in Colinton Tunnel was created to bring more visitors to Colinton. Grabbing your coffee means great support for the small local community here. The tunnel itself and its renovation improved community safety. At some point … not many years ago tunnel has been a dark dangerous and dirty place. Actually, this beautiful mural lifted the local spirit. People respect it. This whole beautiful art experience has been created by local people, and school kids. Enjoy this beautiful place, as it is one of the true hidden gems of Scotland. The Colinton Tunnel is free and accessible at all times
