The first time William Bonner recorded a text for television was in 1985 and just 14 months later he was at Globo Television presenting the local evening news.
In 1988 he started working as the anchor of Fantástico, the Sunday broadcast news, Jornal da Globo, the late-night broadcast news and as presenter and editor-in-chief of Jornal Hoje.
In 1996 he began to present the most important broadcast news program in Brazil – Jornal Nacional – and in 1999 he also assumed the post of its editor-in-chief.
Jornal Nacional was the first news show that was on national broadcast television in Brazil. It began in 1969 and is still on air, after more than 50 years.
