If you have a passion for helping others, healthcare offers infinite career opportunities. You can become a medical assistant, physician, nurse anesthetist, registered nurse, and physical therapist to name a few. Not to mention, you can work with diverse patient populations in any number of inpatient and outpatient settings. So now you’re probably wondering, “Which healthcare career is right for me?”
You’ll find that a lot of the students in our 16-month ABSN program didn’t initially set out to become nurses. It took a person or experience to ignite their passion for the profession.
Take Sarah, for example. After graduating from college, she had every intention of becoming a physical or occupational therapist. However, she took a job as a dialysis tech and got bit by the nursing bug.
“As a tech, I got to work alongside nurses and build rapport with the dialysis patients, which showed me just how rewarding the nursing profession can be.”
It’s also worth mentioning that as a Northeastern ABSN student, you get to gain real-world experience in diverse areas of nursing practice, from acute care to public health. Thereby, these clinicals give you a chance to see what area of the nursing profession best suits your personality and career goals.
For Sarah, she looks at her clinicals as working job interviews. “I go into each clinical day as if this were the case. I’m always thinking, ‘If I was orienting for this job, what would be the best way to approach each patient, physician, staff member, etc.?’”
