Two tourists were killed when they were caught by flash flooding in Slovakia's High Tatra mountains on Thursday (July 11) the mayor of a nearby village told a local TV station.
Heavy storms in central Slovakia caused flooding across the region, local broadcaster Joj TV reported.
Pavol Bekes, the mayor of the village of Zdiar, told Joj a group of 16 tourists had hidden in a shelter which was hit by the flood, with four of the group injured and two dead by the time rescuers reached them.
A spokeswoman for the team that evacuated the injured by helicopter said it included three adults and one child, and they had been taken to local medical facilities, Joj said.
