The Toyota 4Runner was one of the original SUVs when the utility craze started in the 1980s. Since it was introduced, the Toyota 4Runner has always been a body-on-frame design, meaning it is built off a capable pickup truck platform. This latest 4Runner utility has seating for 5-passenger or an optional 7-passengers. Powering the 4Runner is an older 4.0L engine with 270hp and 278lb.-ft. or torque. 4X4 is standrad and the power goes through an older 5-speed automatic. The 4Runner is sold as a base model, TRD off-road model, Limited or the TRD-Pro. The TRD and TRD-Pro come with off-road setting like crawl control and the multi terrain control. The 4Runner is a capable of-road machine but even though this is a rugged truck it is only able to tow 5000lbs.
The 4Runner has no direct competitors except the more luxurious version called the Lexus GX or maybe the Jeep Wrangler.
