Beastie Boys Apologize For Homophobic Past :
The release of the Beastie Boys' new double-album "The Sounds Of Science" compilation apparently has the group in a reflective mood, and the Boys' Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz recently took time out to apologize for some sins of the past.
In a letter sent to "Time Out New York" in response to the magazine's review of the anthology, Horovitz acknowledged that the Beasties' attitude toward homosexuals in its early, "Licensed To Ill" years was both ignorant and offensive.
"I would like to take this opportunity to formally apologize to the entire gay and lesbian community for the sh**ty and ignorant things we said on our first record, 'Licensed To Ill,'" Horovitz wrote. "There are no excuses. But time has healed our stupidity."
"We have learned and sincerely changed since the '80s," he continued. "We hope that you'll accept this long overdue apology."
Horovitz wrote the letter to "Time Out New York" after the magazine noted that the Beastie Boys had yet to address the homophobic lyrics on "Licensed To Ill," an album whose original title was "Don't Be A Faggot."
You can read the complete apology in the December 16 issue of "Time Out New York," currently on stands now.
The Beastie Boys have just released a single and video for "Alive," the one new track on the compilation, and the song is number twelve on this week's Alternative radio charts, according to "R&R."
