For all you Bartitsu, Savate, Boxing training fans @DanOldSkoolConditioningMan . It's time for us to take another step along our late victorian/edwardian fighting fitness journey, learning and training my way through Edward William Barton-Wrights New Art of Self Defence.
In this short video, we take our first look at defensive/evasive body movement of savate and boxing that will be just as useful against the footpads and street rough for the Victorian Gentleman in his street fighting, self-defense training journey. As they are effective in the square ring.
Having already learnt to throw straight and hook punches, it's now time to look at how not to get hit by using evasive body movement. The ducking drill used in this video is primarily used to avoid being hit by our opponants' hook punches but will also work against straight punches as well.
Boxing, Savate, and Bartitsu also share something else in common other than being excellent self-defense and fighting systems they are also unrivalled physical fitness training systems too. Every movement, every punch, and every drill works all the muscles of the whole body using all the five components of fitness all at the same time. This is why I have started the Bartitsu Project and included it in my unconventional strength and fitness training lifestyle. Not only to revive Edward William Barton-Wrights Bartitsu. In its original format and style and do what no one else has done, and that is to re-create a working sylabus for the lost art of self-defence of the late victorian/edwardian era and the first true mixed martial art of the modern age. Also, because of my love of boxing training and martial arts, it makes for great homeworkout fitness training.
