I always thought that the song "Two Brothers" which is sweetly performed here by brothers Jon and Rob Rey and sisters Candy and Jamie Conkling was an actual Civil War folk song… when in reality it was written in 1951 by the prolific Irving Gordon. Here, in just over 2 minutes, Marc Breaux gently and poignantly (as always) directs the story of our Civil War (which began on April 12, 1861) which pitched brother against brother. Marc's cinematic touch makes this tiny sketch come off like a scene out of a big Hollywood motion picture. I also think it’s some of my brother Lex’s finest orchestral and choral arranging.
I’ve also always felt that the family hit their stride with this special filmed in Atlanta, Georgia along with the two other 'city specials', finding our footing with a sound that was neither corny and dated, nor something that was trying to be 'too hip' for our britches or our target audience. I was very disappointed when we were not asked to continue with more of these American city themed shows. I really think we were on to something. Like The Hollywood Palace shows, this special showed what we were capable of in the right hands.
