One concern we hear quite often, is how to prevent dog ears after a tummy tuck surgery.
Dog ears refer to the puckering of skin that can sometimes happen at the end of a tummy tuck scar.
During a tummy tuck and ellipse of tissue is removed, meaning less tissue is removed from the ends and more is removed from the center. When a large amount of tissue is removed from the center, this can cause the skin on the back to become more prominent at the end of the scar.
How do we prevent dog ears?
Most of the time a revision is not needed for dog ears. We perform aggressive liposuction on the back to help eliminate dog ears and we suggest aggressive compression in those areas post surgery.
