Denis Mukwege, Congolese gynecologist who shares Nobel Prize for his work in treating victims of sexual violence was interviewed by VOA French to Africa Service's Nicolas Pinault at his clinic in Panzi, DRC, in February 2013. Originally published Feb. 25, 2013.
Denis Mukwege: "First, the people who are suffering the most are women and children since this war started. We had seen a decline in the number of victims of sexual violence around 2011. Unfortunately, these numbers have started to increase again with the resumption of war. That's the first point.
"The second point is that everyone is talking the M23 [rebel fighters]. But in fact what we are seeing is that armed groups that had demobilized and disbanded have regrouped and resumed their activities."
