The Emergency Rental Assistance program has been slow in distributing funds to millions of households who have fallen behind on rent payments during the pandemic.
The program allocated $46.5 billion to aid families in making back rent payments. According to the Treasury Department, about $5.1 billion in aid has been given to families in need.
According to the Census Bureau, an estimated 1.2 million households will face eviction when the rent moratorium expires in October and over 60% of the renters in need have yet to even apply for aid.
Susan Thomas, president of the Melville Charitable Trust, joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to discuss the aid for rental assistance.
