Andrew Lees is a former member of both the Hallé and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras playing viola. Since returning to Scotland he was first the viola player and then 2nd violin of the Roxburgh Quartet. He is delighted to now also be a part of the Heisenberg Trio.
Since returning to Edinburgh, Andrew has also concentrated on solo playing, arranging, teaching and conducting. He is the conductor of the Open Orchestra and has conducted many other Edinburgh-based groups including Edinburgh Grand Opera and Edinburgh Musical Theatre.
Andrew Lees is an Associate Teacher (violin and viola) at the Laidlaw Music Centre.
A violist and educator brought up in St Andrews and Brisbane, Joanna Petrie studied at the Universities of Durham and Dundee, and the RCS. After nearly two decades of performing, recording, and touring with Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the BBCSSO, she is now concentrating on chamber music performance, education and research. Having taught for all sectors in Scotland, she is currently Co-ordinator of Co-Curricular Music at the High School of Dundee, and Director of Strings for the Scottish Schools Orchestra Trust. She will shortly make a move to a Senior Musician post at Sistema Scotland. She is fortunate to have been a member of the Heisenberg Ensemble since her school days at Madras College and is delighted now also to be conductor of the St Andrews Music Participation (StAMP) Children's Orchestra at the Laidlaw Music Centre.
Robin Mason studied at St Mary's Music School, Edinburgh, and at the Royal Academy of Music, London. He has worked for many years as a freelance musician based in the East of Scotland. He regularly performs in recital and chamber music contexts, and has performed with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Scottish Ballet, the Nairobi Orchestra etc. Robin also plays and sings with the Edinburgh-based singer/songwriter duo Various Moons, performing original songs of Colin Donati.
Recent projects have included composing and recording a 20-minute film score for Jane Brettle’s film ‘mine’, and taking a role in the premier of ‘Playing Beethoven’ by Tim Vincent-Smith at the Edinburgh Pianodrome.
Robin has played with (and on occasion composed for) dance, theatre and film companies including Elements World Theatre, Curious Seed, Indepen-Dance, Scottish Dance Theatre, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, Giant Productions, benchtours, National Theatre of Scotland and Catherine Wheels. He is currently writing and recording music for HARK at the request of Huw Lloyd-Richards.
Robin teaches the cello at Edinburgh Napier University and is an Associate Teacher at the Laidlaw Music Centre.
