Opioid overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States, with deaths from prescription painkillers and heroin quadrupling since 2000. Yet treatment is out of reach for many who need it. A recent Advocates for Opioid Recovery (AOR) study found unusual variability in how states use and pay for opioid-addiction treatment.
Why do barriers to opioid-addiction treatment persist? What is modern treatment for opiate addiction, and how can elected officials, insurance providers, medical professionals, the criminal justice system, and communities promote effective care for those living with opioid addiction?
Join AOR’s founding advisers, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Patrick Kennedy, and Van Jones, in a discussion with AEI’s Sally Satel on therapeutic strategies, challenges to addiction management, and practical solutions.
Join the conversation on social media with @AEI on Twitter and Facebook.
