Lots of people wanting to go abroad to teach English don't want to settle for the typical fodder they find on the internet in the usual spots and want to get a top-notch job. They ask me ask me when the best time of year is to wait and apply.
You see, there is actually no TEFL Black Friday where you wait until one day of the year to camp out on the sidewalk readying yourself to get in a fistfight with someone over the perfect job teaching English.
Instead, we have to recognize that getting good, high-quality leads takes knowledge and persistence. No one gets good at anything instantly. You need to put in energy, create a great first impression with your documentation, practice your follow up, and keep things progressing--even when you're content.
TL;DR
1.) Don't shoot from the hip
2.) Perfect your first impression (resume)
3.) Don't wait
4.) Be consistent
5.) Take action
6.) Don't make yourself a soft target for scammy employers
7.) Realize that the perfect time to get started is always going to be "now." Even if you're not ready to leave, get started with your plan and give yourself something to get excited about!
