The first six minutes discusses just a bit about fans and their operation. We cover just a little about air flow through a workshop for ventilation and describe the cost-free DIY ventilation set up for my buddy's shop. One thing to note, when you see the barn doors covering the exhaust fan bear in mind they are built hollow and filled with styrofoam for insulation, which minimizes cold air infiltration in the wintertime.
Another thing to consider is the condensor fans on updraft a/c units are designed to sit horizontally in the unit and not on edge, or vertically as I installed this one. It has to do with early bearing failure due to weight of the blade pushing down on the shaft sideways vs the weight of the blade resting on the end bell bearing that is designed for the weight. However, the motor was old when I installed it and that was easily 20 years ago. Bear that in mind if you choose to install one in similar fashion.
This video was made entirely for my new Canadian buddy Dave, just as a follow up to our discussion and is not really intended to influence anyone to do do what we did. But if someone gets an idea or two to improve upon, that's ok too !! Of course if Dave can influence another party (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are lol) that would be wonderful as that is the intended intention.... All in good fun guys, I sincerely hope you both smiled at least a little.
As always, don't take my word for it because heck, I just make it up as I go along...but it does work just fine and didn't cost a dime !!
