The Sun is showing some violent active behavior this week. The Dynamic Solar Observatory of NASA detected this sunspot region across the sun's surface facing the earth. I decided to take a look myself yesterday with my backyard telescope and a special chromosphere filter needed to watch the sun. I discovered the same massive sunspot region. It is about 4 earths in size and it already released multiple solar flares into space with the energy of over a million hydrogen bombs. The sun is bound to get more active than this as it moves towards a solar maximum in 2025. The Sun's a scary place, but it keeps us alive every day.
Clear skies all!
Wido.
