Do you need help preparing, writing, or updating your resume?
Hi! I'm Irene Marshall, a professional resume writer and coach, and I've been helping people find jobs for over 20 years.
Today, I want to explore the subtle differences between job titles, roles, and duties and why it is so important to negotiate proper job titles and salary when offered additional responsibilities at your current job.
Three words often used interchangeably in business and careers are job duties, job titles, and job roles, but they are NOT the same!
Job titles are how your role is described - this is what's on your business card.
Job duties are the tasks you're accountable for every day.
Job roles refer to where you stand in the general hierarchy of the organization. Who do you answer to? Who answers to you?
It's important to understand during the negotiation process whether your TITLE reflects the DUTIES of your ROLE. Get it?
I'm happy to help you navigate your job transitions anytime; there's no charge for a free initial consultation. Contact me today, and I'll be delighted to work with you on your resume and job transition goals.
