I just ran across this video from 2013 - a client from the US had come for his final fitting.
When I opened the shop door, the client beamed at me and said "There's someone here who wants to meet you! " - and out from behind him stepped one of my piping heroes - Alan MacDonald of Glenuig! *
If memory serves, Alan had read some stuff I'd posted about bagpipe history and, being as that he'd come from Scotland to Washington State - which is only about a hundred Km from my house - he decided to come up for a quick visit.
We chatted about his recent album and Master's Thesis and then he cracked out a wee tune on my highland pipes before he had to go in order to get back to the venue he'd come to play at.
*here's some context for you non-pipers who read this - imagine that you're a 'working' but unremarkable blues guitar player who's posted a few comments online, and one day Ry Cooder drives a hundred K to say "Hey, liked what you wrote, let's hang out and talk 'music'!"
This was like that.
- here's his paper: [ Ссылка ]
- and here's the album that came as a result of his thesis: [ Ссылка ]
...and a pdf of the CD liner notes - which is as interesting as the music: [ Ссылка ]
