Uses wood to cook instead of the electric/gas stove to save on utility bills, esp. if you have a lot of trees. Very good also if you like to cook foods that take hours to cook. Bigger front opening means you can put bigger diameter branches. Now in The Philippines, we use rectangular pans under the mesh for easy ash cleanup. Transferring the mesh to the 4th layer converts it to a stove where you can use regular charcoal to cook quick meals (kalan de uling) for a more consistent heat.
