Russian President Boris Yeltsin on Tuesday (14/7) urged members of the State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, to approve the government's austerity budget needed for an International Monetary Fund credit line of 22.6 billion dollars. He addressed them before a resumption of Duma debates on the budget and other belt-tightening measures aimed at reviving Russia's faltering economy.
