The Yield sign indicates that you must give the right of way to other road users. Watch the video. In North America, it is less common at conventional intersections. Most Yield signs are now found at turning lanes and roundabouts. When you are approaching these sign be prepared to stop and give the right of way to other road users.
Failing to give the right of way to other road users is one of the leading causes of crashes. And at both turning lanes and roundabouts you must merge with other traffic. Merging with other traffic requires that you locate the gap or space into which you are going to move and time your movement accordingly. For new drivers this is a learned skill owing to its dynamic nature.
