Pi in mathematics has been know about since ancient times. So what was the ancient method of computing the value of pi?
In this video I demonstrate the predominant method of calculating pi from the ancient world (prior to the 1400s). The ancient way of computing pi is credited to Archimedes where pi was computed by drawing polygons over a circle and computing the perimeter to approximate the circumference of a circle, thus computing a value for pi.
This video is being uploaded on pi approximation day (July 22) as a teaser for my more long form video on approximating pi with modern computational methods, coming out very soon.
