The history between Germany and France has always been very changeable. Long referred to as eternal hereditary enemies, it was only after the Second World War that the two states managed to resolve their differences and become close friends.

One territory in particular was a major bone of contention: Alsace-Lorraine. The territory changed nationality a total of four times and was always of central importance to both states. To this day, it is a very special region where German and French culture meet.
