Anthony J Arillotta, born in 1970 was a member of the Genovese family in Springfield Mass. His record was light, two arrests for gambling, however, Arillotta pleaded guilty to his role in the murder of his onetime mentor Adolfo “Big Al” Bruno as well as the murder just weeks earlier of his brother-in-law, Gary D. Westerman, an informant. He also attempted to kill union boss Frank Dadabo outside Dadabo’s home in Bronx, N.Y. and strong-arming businessmen for increased tribute.
Bruno was killed by a hit team who shot him six times at close range on November 23, 2003. That night Bruno had dinner with his family and then drove to the Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Club to play a few hands of cards. He was ambushed an murdered when he left the club.
Taking part in Bruno’s murder got Arillotta made into the Genovese family.
Arillotta was arrested in 2010 Arillotta began cooperating almost immediately in March of 2010 to avoid capital punishment or a life sentence. He led investigators to Westerman’s remains in a wooded area in Agawam, Mass., surprised them with the Dadabo shooting details and essentially blew the murder plot against Bruno wide open.
Also arrested were Arthur Nigro, Felix Tranghese, Ty Geas, Fotoios Geas, Emilio Fusco were arrested conspiracy to murder Bruno. In 2004, Frankie Roche, a fringe player in Springfield rackets, was arrested and pled guilty in 2008 as the gunman in the murder. He was sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison.
According to the FBI the killers needed Bruno dead to maintain and increase their position in the Genovese family, and prevent Bruno from providing information to the feds about crimes committed by members and associates of the Genovese family.
Arillotta testified against his co-defendants in two separate trials in exchange for a lighter sentence.
Nigro, who had given the order to murder Bruno, was given a life sentence. Fotios Geas and Ty Geas, who planned the murder, were each sentenced to life in prison. Loan shark Emilio Fusco got 25 years.
He was released in 2017 after eight years and at this writing remains on probation.
In 2020 he was charged with assault after he allegedly tossed a cartoon of lemonade at a female family member in an argument over a dog which the family member left at Arillotta’s home. Arillotta is allergic to dogs and wanted the dog removed.
The cartoon hit the woman in the leg. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon…….the ever dangerous cartoon of lemonade. A judge dismissed the case
