I can not stress enough how important it is to contact a licensed engineer for this type of job. I went way further than I needed to when prepping to put this beam up but I like to overkill on projects like this. It’s always better to do more than to do less.

I used 2x4 from the wall I was removing to save a few bucks. Because my wall isn’t load bearing, all these temp walls are really doing is preventing the ceiling joists from sagging.
